Keeping Our Local Children Healthy!

That’s the vision of the Children's Health Initiative of San Luis Obispo County. Over the past five years, we have assisted more than 10,000 LOCAL uninsured children ~ helping parents get the right health coverage for their children.  For children of low-income working parents who have no other options for care in our County, we provide Healthy Kids Coverage: a comprehensive local medical insurance program with local dental and vision access. 

Why health coverage?

It is the key to good health for our children and our community.

Health insurance is the KEY that opens all doors in our current health care system such as clinics, pediatrician’s offices, hospital in-patient and out-patient care, specialist’s care, prescription drugs, medical equipment, lab services, diagnostic services, behavioral and mental health counseling.  It is the key to health and well-being for us all; and the best chance for our children to grow up healthy and live a more productive and happier life. 

Our Local HEALTHY KIDS PROGRAM is a Public & Private Community Partnership.

First 5 San Luis Obispo County pays for each eligible local 5 year old child. All other children are funded through separate local public and private funds like the County Board of Supervisors, our community organizations, individuals, and through grants from California foundations. Through these donations, the Children's Health Initiative has brought in $5.1 million dollars into our County. Twenty percent of our funding is ending and we need your support today to keep our local children in this cost-effective, affordable community coverage program.
